What is happening at Smithtown Library?

On Thursday, July 7, the Friends of The Smithtown Library, a volunteer organization dedicated to assisting the Library, awarded its annual scholarship during the opening of the Dennis Cannataro Family Summer Concert Series. This prize is awarded annually to graduating Smithtown Library users; thirteen applicants applied this year. Emily Garry, a graduate of Smithtown High School East, got first place, while Josie Muratore, a graduate of Smithtown High School West, received second place.

In the fall, Emily Garry will enroll at Fairfield University. She has had a love for libraries ever since she participated in the Summer Reading Program as a youngster. Emily could not wait to return each week and check off another book from her reading list. Emily’s experience as a teenage volunteer for the Summer Reading Program led to her job as a page at the Nesconset Building of the Smithtown Library.

Josie Muratore will enroll at Providence College in the fall. She is also acquainted with the Summer Reading Program at the Library. Josie could not wait to discuss the weekly books she would read and get a new prize. Josie’s first volunteer opportunity was with the Summer Reading Program, where she worked for two summers.

The Friends of the Smithtown Library and the Smithtown Library congratulate these two young ladies on their accomplishment and wish them further success.
